Ahmed Shahzad stars in Quetta Gladiators win over Karachi Kings

Shahzad’s timely innings with the bat helped Gladiators topple Kings.

Karachi Kings suffered a major setback to their campaign after losing their fourth game of the season to Quetta Gladiators in the 15th game played at Dubai in the Pakistan Super League 2017.

Asad Shafiq once again showed good form with the bat at the top while fellow opener also came back to form with a good half century to put on a 100 run partnership. The start for Quetta was ideal as it allowed others to play their normal game. Shehzad scored 54 runs off 40 balls and struck three sixes in his innings. He was dismissed by fast bowler Sohail Khan.

Shafiq also chipped with a half century but continue stay till the end as he pulled a short straight to Muhammad Amir to see Gladiators lose their third wicket of the innings. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed came to the crease and knocked off the remaining runs to see Gladiators secure their place in the playoffs of the competition with another clinical performance. Quetta chased down the score of 158 runs in the 18th over and clinched another win by six wickets.

Earlier in the game, Karachi Kings openers Kumar Sangakkara and Babar Azam went on the charge from ball one to pick regular boundaries against the likes of Mir Hamza and Tymal Mills. The openers put on 63 runs in a space of eight overs before Mahmudullah took the wicket of Sangakkara to provide Gladiators with much needed breakthrough in the innings.

Babar Azam again looked in good touch and could not register his fifty as he was dismissed by Mahmudullah to see Kings lose 2 wickets for 77 runs in 11.2 overs. Chris Gayle has not been in best of form and looked out of sorts as he played slow-paced innings scoring 29 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed by Anwar Ali.Kieron Pollard also chipped in with late cameo to see Kings register 154 runs from their 20 overs.

Quetta Gladiators are now top of the league with four wins under their belt and have secured their place in the playoffs of the competition while Kings will need to their remaining two games to stand a chance of making it to the last four of the Pakistan Super League 2017.
