Ashwin and Virat Kohli bag top honors
Virat Kohli has been given the Polly Umrigar Award for the third time
India Test captain Virat Kohli will be awarded with the Polly Umrigar Award at the BCCI award ceremony in Bangalore on March 8, 2017. Kohli, who received the award in 2011–12 and in 2014–15, will become the first Indian cricketer to be bestowed with the honor on three occasions.The award is given to the international cricketer of the year by the Indian cricket board.
R Ashwin will also become the first Indian cricketer to receive the Dilip Sardesai Award twice. Ashwin first won the award, instituted to honor the best performance of an all-rounder, during the WI series in 2011.
The BCCI Annual Awards Committee, consisting of N Ram, Ramachandra Guha and Diana Edulji, had nominated former left-arm spinners Rajinder Goel and Padmakar Shivalkar for the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award and also instituted the Lifetime Achievement Award for Women starting this season, which will be given to India’s first Test captain Shanta Rangaswamy.
