Azhar’s unbeaten 85 runs helps Pakistan reach 169 for 2 on Day 1 at Roseau.
Azhar Ali and Babar Azam batted well to take Pakistan to a good position at the end of day’s play in the third and final Test.
Azhar Khan carved out a patient innings to remain unbeaten on 85 runs to take Pakistan to register 169 for 2 after 69 overs at the close of Day 1 of third Test against West Indies at Roseau in Dominica. He was provided with adequate support from the other end as Babar Azam also compiled a half century. Shan Masood was dismissed by Roston Chase in the 12th over of the innings in the first session of the day. Masood replaced Ahmed Shehzad as an opener for Pakistan.
Younis Khan came out to bat later in the day as Azam was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph to see West Indies player welcome him to the pitch with a guard of honor to congratulate him for outstanding career in the game of cricket. Younis and Misbah are set to retire after this game. Azhar and Babar partnership was highlight of the day as duo added 120 runs and consumed 42 overs in the process to see Pakistan placed comfortably at the end of Day 1. A lot of overs was lost due to rain due to only 69 overs were sent down on the opening day of game.
Earlier, West Indies Captain Jason Holder won the toss and opted to field first. West Indies went with the same side that won the last game while Pakistan made two changes bringing in Hasan Ali and Shan Masood in place of Shadab Khan and Ahmed Shehzad.
West Indies will be focused to take wickets in the first session on Day 2 while Pakistan will aim for 400 plus score to avoid an uncomfortable scenario faced in the last game that led them to lose the Test match at Barbados.
