Bowlers setup impressive win for Lahore Qalandars over Islamabad United

Elliott’s 4 wickets helped his side register their first win in the league.

Lahore Qalandars staged a terrific comeback and win in their second game of the Pakistan Super League against Islamabad United by six wickets. Jason Roy was the star of the show with the bat after bowlers produced a pitch perfect display to restrict Islamabad to score of 158 runs from 20 overs.

Roy played well for his unbeaten 60 runs off 51 balls and kept the scoreboard ticking at a nice rate. Brendon McCullum, Umar Akmal and Sunil Narine contributed with the bat to see the side chase down the target in the 18th over of the innings.

Mohammad Sami and Rumman Raees bowled decent spells for Islamabad United while the rest were expensive on the night. Brendon McCullum will be pleased with his team’s quick turnaround after an unexpected defeat in the first game at the hands of Quetta Gladiators.

Earlier in the game, Lahore Qalandars won the toss and elected to field first. Sam Billings and Dwayne Smith laid down an ideal platform for United with a 73 run stand for the opening wicket.

The game turned in favor of Qalandars when Grant Elliott came into the attack and dismissed both the openers in a quick succession. Elliott turned out to be man with a golden arm as he also managed to dismiss Brad Haddin and Shane Watson to end up with match figure of 4 wickets for 23 runs from 3 overs.

Misbah-ul-Haq stood firm for the Islamabad as he played well for his unbeaten 61 runs off 36 balls without much support from the other end.He struck three fours and five sixes in his innings to take his side to post a score of 158 runs from their full quota of overs.

Lahore are now in third place with one win out of two games played so far in the league while United have suffered a timely setback with this defeat as the reigning champions must improve their game to remain a force in the tournament.
