Du Plessis and Miller star in South Africa’s win against Sri Lanka at Durban

Sri Lanka’s poor show with the bat continued as hosts take 2–0 lead in the series.

Faf du Plessis and David Miller scored splendid tons as South Africa produced dominant display with the bat to overcome Sri Lanka by a big margin of 121 runs at Kingsmead, Durban. The hosts with this win have now taken 2–0 lead in the five-match series.

Sri Lanka didn’t look like they were in control during the game, chasing 308 runs as once the openers Niroshan Dickwella and Upul Tharanga departed in the first 15 overs. The visitors kept losing wickets as everyone in the batting lineup got starts and failed to get any big scores. Wayne Parnell took the openers out in the first 15 overs while Imran Tahir and JP Duminy took two wickets apiece to see Sri Lanka get bundled out for 186 runs in 37.5 overs. The bowling was backed by truly special fielding performance by the hosts to brush aside their opponents in a comfortable fashion.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. South Africa got off to shaky start as both openers fell early in the innings. Faf du Plessis came to the crease and played a composed innings by rotating the strike as much as possible.

AB de Villiers and JP Duminy also fell for low scores as South Africa were in a tricky situation at 108 for 4 after 20 over. du Plessis was joined by power hitter David Miller at the crease as duo added 117 runs to put their side back on track in the game. Faf du Plessis notched up his seventh century while Miller also brought up three figures in the last over to see the side register 308 runs from 50 overs.

The visitors need to bat well if they want to stay relevant in the series as the third game of the series will be played at Johannesburg on Saturday. The game is going to be good one as Johannesburg has always produced high scoring games.
