Dwayne Smith shines with bat to see Islamabad United defeat Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets
Bowling delivered a pitch perfect performance for Islamabad United in rain affected game.
Dwayne Smith’s stunning innings leads defending champions Islamabad United to a last ball victory against Peshawar Zalmi at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Islamabad United had a horrid start as they lost three wickets inside the first nine overs at the score of just 45 while chasing a rather tricky target of 137 on a sluggish pitch,
However, Smith, who got lucky twice, first when he was dropped by Hasan Ali on the bowling of Shahid Afridi, and then when he caught off the no-ball, held his nerve in a tense chase and remained unbeaten on 72 off just 59 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes to guide his team home to a five-wicket win. He was well supported by former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who scored 30 off 22 balls, which included one four and two sixes.
Earlier in the game, after being sent in to bat first Peshawar manager to score just 136 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. England T20I captain Eoin Morgan finished the innings with the score of 28 off 28 balls, which included three fours and one six. He was well supported lower down the order by small cameos from Captain Darren Sammy, Afridi and Wahab.
For United, pacer Mohammad Sami claimed three, whereas left-arm pacer Rumman Raees and left-arm spinner Shadab Khan claimed two wickets each. For his outstanding batting performance, Smith was awarded man of the match.
Islamabad United are now second in the points standings with three wins out of five games while Lahore are still reeling at the bottom with four points.Lahore now have to win all their remaining games to secure their place in the semifinals of the competition.
