Grant Elliot clinches last ball win for Lahore Qalandars
Lahore Qalandars edge out Islamabad United in a thrilling game at Sharjah.
Former Black Caps all-rounder Grant Elliot kept his nerve in a tense finish as Lahore Qalandars beat Islamabad United by one wicket in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Qalandars were in total control till the 16th over, thanks to some brilliant batting from middle-order batsman Umar Akmal while chasing 146 to win their third match of the tournament.
However, once he departed, Islamabad managed to pick wickets on regular intervals which left Lahore needed six runs off the last five balls with just one wicket in hand.
Grant Elliot was the man of the moment for Lahore who struck a massive six on the bowling of Mohammad Sami to hand his team a much deserved victory. The younger Akmal finished the innings with the top score of 66 off 42 balls with the help eight fours and three sixes.
Islamabad United left-arm pacer Rumman Raees claimed three whereas all-rounder Shadab Khan picked two wickets.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, Islamabad United managed to score 145 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. United were in all sorts of trouble after losing their six wickets for just 83 runs, but 53-run seventh-wicket partnership between Shadab and Ammad Butt helped defending champions post a respectable total. Shadab finished the innings with the top score of 42 off 24 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes.
Lahore Qalandars now second in the table with six points from six games played so far in the competition.Islamabad are also tied on points at third but both the side will have to win their remaining games to secure their places in the playoffs of the Pakistan Super League 2017.
