Haddin shines with the bat as Islamabad United overcome Peshawar Zalmi at Dubai
Islamabad United started on a right note with a win against hot-favorites Zalmi
Brad Haddin’s scintillating display with the bat helped defending champions Islamabad United start off their campaign with a win against Peshawar Zalmi in opening game of Pakistan Super League 2017.
It was duo of Brad Haddin and Dwayne Smith that put on a partnership over 100 runs to see their side complete the chase the revised target of 173 runs in the 17th over after the game was cut-short by rain at Dubai. Islamabad’s start in the chase was far from ideal as opener Sharjeel Khan was dismissed in the second over of the innings.
Brad Haddin and Dwayne Smith played sensibly to take the side out of a precarious situation and rotated the strike to keep their side well in hunt to chase down the score posted by Peshawar.
Earlier in the game, Peshawar Zalmi put on a competitive total on the board as they scored 191 from 20 overs as Kamran Akmal blistering 88 runs off 48 balls helped the side get off to a perfect start in their innings. He was ably supported by Dawid Malan who scored 43 runs off 30 balls as duo put on 122 run stand to lay perfect platforms for the likes of Afridi and Sammy to go berserk in the end innings.
After Akmal’s departure, Peshawar lost the momentum and could only muster 33 runs in the last four overs as Watson led the fightback for Islamabad with four wickets from his four-over spell.
Islamabad United have kicked off their title defense with a win over Peshawar Zalmi. Darren Sammy’s men would need to fine tune their skills in the bowling department for their next clash in the Pakistan Super League 2017.
