Kevin Pietersen’s splendid knock helps Quetta beat Lahore by five wickets
Quetta Gladiators chased down a massive score to go top of the table.
Kevin Pietersen played a blistering innings as Quetta Gladiators defeated Lahore Qalandars by five wickets at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Gladiators were in trouble as both openers departed early inside the first five overs chasing a mammoth total of 201 to cement their position on the top of the league table,
However, Pietersen, who scored two ducks in his last two innings, played a stunning innings of 88 not out off just 42 balls with the help of three fours and eight massive sixes to help his side get over the line with 11 balls to spare.
He was well supported by Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who scored 45 off just 25 balls with the help of three fours and three maximums, whereas South African left-hander Rilee Rossouw scored a useful 33 off just 18 balls. For Lahore, pacers Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Irfan claimed two wickets each.
Earlier after being sent in to bat first, Lahore posted a huge total of 200 for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs. English opener Jason Roy finished the innings with the top score of 51 off 27 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes, whereas other opener Fakhar Zaman (47 off 31 balls) and wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan (46 off 28 balls) played useful innings for the team.
Quetta Gladiators left-arm spinner Hasan Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed two, whereas veteran spinner Zulfiqar Babar picked one wicket. For his outstanding batting performance, Pietersen was awarded man of the match.
Quetta are now top in the points standings with seven points from five games played in the competititon.Peshawar Zalmi have suffered a setback with this defeat but will need to win their next game in order to secure its place in the playoffs of the Pakistan Super League 2017.
