Ravindra Jadeja wins sledging war against unruly Australian wicket-keeper

India and Australia had agreed to play within the spirit of the game after some heated moments in the Bengaluru Test but it seems the truce seems to have had little effect on the visitors. Tensions always run high in a match between India and Australia. And when it is a series decider like the Dharamsala Test, this aspect of the game just goes sky-high.

On the third day of the series deciding fourth and final Test in Dharamsala, Australia were clearly feeling the heat as Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja inched closer to the Aussie first innings total of 300.

With India struggling with six wickets down on the third day of the fourth Test, Aussie wicket-keeper Matthew Wade decided to get under the skin of Ravindra Jadeja.

Wade, who was praising Nathan Lyon during the stretch of play, drew comparisons between the Australian spinner and Jadeja. “Very good in all conditions, Gary (Lyon). Great in all conditions, Gary. You get wickets all over the world, mate. You’re not just a one-trick pony,” Wade kept chirping away from behind the stumps.

Unfazed by Wade’s comments, the Indian all-rounder answered back in the best possible way. Jadeja smacked Lyon’s short-pitched delivery for a towering six to bring up 1000 runs in Test cricket. In the process, the 28-year-old became the 10th player in the history of Indian cricket to score 1000 runs and pick up 100 wickets in the longest format.

Wade started needling Jadeja, who kept his calm in the face of some pretty shoddy behavior from the Australians. When umpire Ian Gould tried to cool things down, Jadeja responded by saying: “If he starts it, I will give it back.”

Despite getting a befitting reply, there was no stopping to loudmouth Wade who continued to taunt Jadeja. “I’m going to get a selfie with him at the end of the game. Put it on Instagram, as soon as the game finishes,” Wade said.

Soon umpire Marais Erasmus stepped in and asked the Oz wicket-keeper: “Wade, are you going to stop that?” But Wade was probably frustrated with his own batting and continued chirping: “Careful with that sword too.”

Irked by his consistent comments, Jadeja decided to give Wade back some of his own medicine. “I don’t understand why the Australian selectors pick you for Tests. You don’t deserve it,” Jadeja replied.

But, the Indian southpaw’s best response came when he steered the ball towards the off-side to bring up his half-century. After reaching his fifty, Jadeja unveiled his signature-style sword celebration to the sheer displeasure of Wade and the Australians.

That must have been sweet revenge for the star all-rounder AND the world’s number one bowler.

After the day’s play, Jadeja, when asked about his conversation with Wade, came up with an epic response. “I told him (Wade) we will catch up later for dinner after Australia lose the match,” the left-hander said.

In the four-match series so far, Wade has scored 196 runs including one fifty, while Jadeja has not only scored 127 runs (including two fifties), but also boasts of 25 scalps.

Well, looks like, Wade might have to focus on his own skills before criticizing others.
