Spinners script an improbable win for Karachi Kings over Islamabad United

Karachi Kings toppled reigning champions to setup a clash against Peshawar

Karachi Kings pulled off an amazing win to outclass Islamabad United in the Eliminator played at Sharjah. Usama Mir and Imad Wasim produced match-winning performances with the ball to see Islamabad crumble under pressure and fold for 82 runs to see Kings qualify for their next clash against Peshawar Zalmi at Dubai on 3rd March on Friday.

United got off to bad start as left arm fast bowler Muhammad Amir took two wickets in the third over of the innings to bring Kings back into the contest. Imad Wasim came into the attack and dismissed captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Shane Watson in a quick succession to see the side in all sorts of trouble.

Asif Ali top scored 39 runs for Islamabad while the rest of the batting lineup capitulated in conditions providing help to slow bowlers to bow out of the tournament in a disappointing fashion. United were heavily reliant on the likes of Dwayne Smith and it proved when the top-order faltered the reigning champions just could not revive their innings as Kings posted a below par of 126 runs from 20 overs.

Earlier in the day, Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss for Islamabad and opted to field first. Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Sami was superb upfront as Kings batting lineup could not get going in their innings and all chipped with runs to see the side post 127 runs from 20 overs. Shoaib Malik and Babar Azam scored 20s while the rest of the batting failed to anything noticeable as Rumman Raees death bowling was of the highest order. Raees bagged four wickets and was the pick of the bowlers for United on the night.

Karachi Kings will now face Peshawar Zalmi in the 3rd Qualifier game at Dubai and the winner of the contest will face Quetta Gladiators in the finals of Pakistan Super League 2017 at Lahore on 5th March.
