Stunning Rossouw leads Quetta to seven-wicket win over Karachi
Gladiators go top in the league after second successive win in the league.
Brilliant counter-attacking display from Rilee Rossouw helped Quetta Gladiators defeat Karachi Kings by seven wickets to register their second consecutive win in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Dubai Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing a stiff target 160 to win, last year’s runners-up were in serious trouble after losing first three wickets for the score of 30 runs inside five overs.
However, 130-run unbeaten fourth wicket partnership between South African left-hander Rossouw and captain Sarfraz Ahmed leads Quetta to a comfortable win with five balls to spare.
The 27-year-old finished with the top score of 76 not out off 53 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes, whereas Sarfraz remained unbeaten on 56 off 42 balls which included four boundaries and one maximum.
Sohail Khan was the pick of the bowler as he claimed three wickets and just gave away 23 runs in his four overs. Earlier, after being sent in to bat first, Kings managed to score 159 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Young Babar Azam finished with the top score of 50 off 42 balls with the help of four fours and one six, whereas Captain Kumar Sangakkara scored made notable contribution of 25 off 22 balls. Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera picked three, whereas Tymal Mills claimed two wickets. For his outstanding batting performance, Rossouw was awarded man of the match.
Quetta Gladiators with this win are sitting at the top of the table with four points with Peshawar Zalmi placed at second with two points. Karachi Kings did put in a better display as they will be keen to get that much-needed win to revive their campaign after two consecutive losses in the league.
