Virat Kohli climbs to No. 3 in ICC Test rankings

Kohli rises at a fast pace in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen

After leading India to 2–0 lead in the five-match Test against England, skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday vaulted to a career best third spot in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings.

Starting the five-Test series against England in 15th position, Kohli has risen at a fast pace, scoring 405 runs in three Tests so far. Kohli made 62 and six not out to move to 833 points in the third Test.

Virat Kohli is already the number 1 T20 batsman in the world and number 2 in ODIs behind AB de Villiers. Only 14 points separate Kohli and Root while 50 points separate them with the Australian skipper Steve Smith.

Cheteshwar Pujara is the only other Indian in the top 10, lying in the eight spot.

Meanwhile, in the list of all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja, who was adjudged Man of the Match in the Mohali Test, has gained two slots to reach a career-best fourth slot. His spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin has consolidated his position at the top with 493 points, a tally not reached by anyone since retired South Africa player Jacques Kallis in 2008.
